Lead by empowering diverse product teams through coaching, influencing, and mentoring to deliver great design aligned with organizational strategy and outcomes.
Leadership
Being a design leader, my main goal is to create a system that helps product teams produce outstanding designs. My leadership style varies based on the context, needs, and goals. Building a team with diverse skills, experiences, and backgrounds leads to great design through the exchange of ideas and open discussions.
As a coach,
- I provide direction, resources (space, time, and tools), and protection for the product team.
- I strive to connect with individuals personally, understand their motivations, and help them achieve excellence.
- I offer actionable feedback, create platforms for connection, and provide growth opportunities—all while ensuring we have fun along the way!
As an influencer,
- I ensure that technology, product management, and design work closely with the organization’s strategy and vision.
- I collaborate with colleagues in engineering, sales, marketing, legal, and customer support.
- I show my leadership through guidance, foresight, idea development, persuasion, awareness, and listening.
As a mentor, I use the GROW model to coach my team. This model, developed by Sir John Whitmore, stands for Goals, Reality, Options, and Will. It helps me understand the goals of team members, assess their situation, explore options, and encourage action that aligns with their will.
In summary, my leadership style focuses on empowering product teams, building diverse groups by coaching, influencing, and mentoring. These qualities have helped me create systems that allow product teams to design effectively while staying aligned with the organization’s vision and strategy.
